I was born in Kobe and raised in Kyoto, a city I have been fortunate to call home for more than 40 years.
My deeper appreciation for Kyoto’s heritage began in my thirties, when I was introduced to the world of Kagai—the city’s centuries-old cultural districts where geiko, maiko, and generations of artisans have preserved a refined tradition of arts and hospitality.
My first ozashiki experience in Miyagawacho, sharing an evening with geiko and maiko, left a lasting impression. I was deeply moved by their elegance, artistry, and the dedication required to preserve these traditions. Over time, my connection with Kagai grew, allowing me to understand the values of trust, craftsmanship, and human connection that have shaped Kyoto’s cultural identity.
Through these experiences, I discovered that Kyoto’s true essence extends far beyond its famous landmarks. It lives within the hands of artisans, the quiet beauty of traditional arts, the spirit of historic places, and the personal relationships that have protected these treasures for generations.
Yet I also came to recognize the challenges facing these precious traditions. While Kyoto welcomes visitors from around the world, many of its most meaningful cultural experiences remain inaccessible without trusted connections. The relationships and values that preserve their authenticity are also what make them difficult to discover.
This realization led me to establish Exclusive Kyoto: to create a respectful bridge between those who wish to experience the true spirit of Kyoto and the people who continue to protect its living heritage.
Our mission is not simply to offer experiences, but to create meaningful encounters—moments of connection that reveal the beauty, wisdom, and spirit of Kyoto. Through trusted relationships and carefully curated experiences, we hope to share a side of this remarkable city that few have the opportunity to encounter.
I believe that time spent discovering Kyoto’s hidden cultural treasures has the power to transform perspectives and create memories that last a lifetime.
With the deepest respect for the traditions that define this city, I hope Exclusive Kyoto can contribute to their preservation and help ensure that Kyoto’s unique heritage continues to inspire future generations.
